Welcome to Hoofprints on the Heart Adaptive Riding Center!

Hoofprints On The Heart Adaptive Riding Clinic is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by three women with various life experiences, but having a common dream of pairing horses with the disabled population. This grassroots organization was created as a result of unique chance meetings, a common love of horses, and a need in the Tri Valley area for adaptive riding. All three founders have been teachers of handicapped students, and one is a parent of a son with multiple disabilities. Each has seen how a horse can “magically” change a child with limited abilities.

HOTHARC is a dream in the making. The need for such a program in the area is great and we are intent on ensuring a solid foundation to guarantee its success. We are located in Livermore at 455 Olivina Avenue on the 4.5 acre historic Hagemann Farm. Currently, HOTHARC welcomes new students, volunteers and supporters. Opportunities for involvement include working with horses and students at lessons, ranch maintenance, office support, participation in special events, and participation on fund raising committees. As a volunteer-based organization, your support is an essential part of ensuring our success. Find out how you can help us grow.

Service Projects are always welcome at Hoofprints on the Heart.  Robert Reed from Boy Scout Troop 939 in Livermore is the second scout to complete a Eagle Project for the riding center. On Feb. 7, 2009 Robert and his troop built a tall gate that will serve as the first station on the Sensory Trail around the ranch.  Children will ride their horses through the various stations on the trail and experience different sounds, textures and colors.  It is all part of individualizing each child's experience at HOTH and using as many modalities as possible to reach their therapy goals.

The scouts also helped clean up the ranch, stuffing a dumpster with brush and trash.  The ranch looks much better as a result of their efforts.  Thank-you Troop 939!  And Congratulations to Robert upon earning the rank of Eagle Scout!

Parent Testimonials

"In June 2007, my 9-year-old daughter was diagnosed with autism. She has been riding horses at Hoofprints on the Heart since July '07. She is by nature very hesitant and fearful of new things, but she shows no hesitancy when she climbs onto her horse Summer. She is encouraged to verbalize and give directions to the horse, which helps greatly with her speech. Above all, this experience has given her a sense of success."
